Hakuba-The Japanese Alps
Like many places in Japan, Hakuba is known for deep snow--they average 500" per season. Unlike many places in Japan, when the skies clear you have access to peaks similar to Alaska's Chugach Mountains--big, steep, and deep. Hakuba offers excellent options for lift accessed skiing, lift accessed ski touring, and classic ski touring/mountaineering.
Excellent food, endless Onsen's (natural hot springs), and a full range of lodging options make this a must of every skier.
